St Xavier's College Ranchi offers a wide range of programmes across disciplies and at various levels of UG and PG programmes. Students head all of the technical and production areas during the preparation and run of productions. During performances, students manage the backstage, run the lights and sound, and operate as running crews. Additionally, student producers are instrumental in maintaining the solidarity of the program, artistically and practically . Moreover, student directors work closely with the director in teaching technique, skill acquirement, and interpretation. Student technical crews are headed by experienced students who model and teach building skills, painting, crafting techniques in properties, and in artistic design .

In 1912, the Branch High School moved into the Avondale Athletic Club in North Avondale and became Xavier Academy. On September 10, 1919, Xavier Academy closed as the College of Arts and Sciences moved into its campus. However, science classes remained at the high school downtown, for the time being, as did the evening classes from the Schools of Law, Commerce, and Sociology. At the beginning of freshman year, the center gives students opportunities to form community among themselves, with an effort at inclusiveness across all lines of faith and culture. The renovation was designed by Murphy Burnham & Buttrick and led by construction manager Structure Tone. The renovation involved cleaning the exterior marble, repairing stained-glass windows, painting the ceiling, and replacing the flooring and steps. Renwick filed plans for the cathedral spires in September 1885, and the contract was awarded to George Mann & Co. of Baltimore. Excavation of the stone commenced in January 1886 and the spires were constructed starting that September. The last stones of the spires were erected in October 1888, at which point the cathedral was considered completed. At the time several hundred niches remained to be filled with figures, and ten chapels did not have their altars yet.
The swimming team, known as the "Aquabombers", has won district, sectional and citywide titles in every year since 1970, capturing 42 Ohio state championships during this span. In 2008, St. Charles Preparatory School of Columbus broke the Aquabombers' nine-year state title streak. The team has earned the distinction of Swimming World national high school swimming team champions in 1973, 1992, 2001, and 2017. From 1988 to 2015, head coach Jim Brower led the Aquabombers to 21 state titles, the most of any men's coach in Ohio high school history. The program produced Swimming World Magazine high school swimmers of the year Joe Hudepohl in 1992 and Jayme Cramer in 2001.

These included the construction of an altar to St. Michael on the left side of the Lady chapel, as well as an altar to St. Joseph on the right side. By 1907, a movable bronze screen was to be installed at the transept, and the temporary wooden floor dating from the cathedral's construction was planned to be replaced with a permanent marble floor. The bronze screens were a gift to celebrate the archdiocese's centennial, which almost every archbishop in the United States celebrated at the cathedral in April 1908. The Lady chapel was originally outfitted with transparent windows, though its stained-glass windows were manufactured in Europe starting in 1909. In the first half of 1910, the cathedral's debt of $800,000 was completely paid off. St. Patrick's Cathedral was consecrated on October 5, 1910, with Archbishop John Murphy Farley officiating.
